aoi “blu” furutate
is a first-generation Japanese-American dancer and choreographer from New York City. She holds a BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School, where she studied under the direction of Alicia Graf Mack.
Blu is currently a dancer with The Metropolitan Opera for their 2025/26 season. In 2024, she was selected by Sharon Eyal to perform alongside S-E-D in the North American premiere of R.O.S.E at the Park Avenue Armory. She has been a member of Obremski/Works since 2021 and was named the company’s inaugural VISION Fellow. Additional performance highlights include appearing with Ariana DeBose at Lincoln Center’s Spring 2025 Gala and performing as a soloist for Gibney Company’s Spring 2023 Gala.
While at Juilliard, Blu performed works by William Forsythe, Johannes Wieland, Camille A. Brown, and Shen Wei, among others. She has worked with artists including Bryan Arias, Gregory Lau, Darrell Grand Moultrie, Nicholas Palmquist, Sidra Bell, and Jie-Hung Connie Shiau.
Early on she studied musical theater at the Professional Performing Arts School (Middle School) before continuing her dance training at The Ailey School, LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, MOVE|NYC|, and the French Academie of Ballet.
In her senior year of high school, Blu was named Dance Spirit Magazine’s March 2021 Cover Model Search Winner.
As a choreographer, her work has been presented through Juilliard’s Choreographic Workshops, Choreographers & Composers (2023), Senior Production (2025), and Arts on Site, where she self-produced an original work.
Blu is excited to be an inaugural member of eni artist collective as a dancer, guest choreographer, and a part of the artistic administration.
